Willis H. Dryden, Sr., 68, of Crisfield, died Friday, January 4, 2013 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Crisfield on February 10, 1944, he was the son of the late Norris Robert "Shug" Dryden, who died in 1985, and the late Isabel Chelton Dryden who died December 10, 2012.
A graduate of Crisfield High School class of 1963, he was a waterman and served 10 years in the Army National Guard. He also worked at Rubberset Corp. in Crisfield.
He was a member of the Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with the gang at Gordon's. He also enjoyed playing games on Facebook the last few years.
He is survived by his wife of almost 38 years, Virginia Lee Sterling Dryden of Crisfield; seven children and 14 grandchildren, Nancy Lemler and husband Bob of Pennsylvania; Kenny Sterling of New Jersey and his children Kristal and Kenny, Jr.; Iva Jean Riggin and husband Jay of Crisfield; Reginald Sterling and wife Beverly of Salisbury and their children, Reggie, Jr., Tracey, and Jordan; Ronnie Sterling and wife Melinda of Crisfield and their children Kelly and Scott; Willis H. Dryden, Jr. and wife Andrea of Marion Station and their children Mallory, Madison, and Molly; and Michelle Dryden of Crisfield and her children, Nina Marie, Olivia, Shelby, and Gavin; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marlene Dryden Adkins of Crisfield and her daughter Nina Kaye Adkins; cousins, Bruce Chelton of Florida and Donnie Chelton of Salisbury; his special friends, Billy and Monique Welch of Marion Station, and Doug Nelson, Fred and Joan Simms, Buddy Carson, Buddy Carson, Jr. and Tim Carson, all of Crisfield; and many other friends at Gordon's in Crisfield.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Dryden Rayne in 2011.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where a viewing will be held from 1-2 PM. The Rev. Robert Daniels will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
