Obituary

William Welling "Bill" Warfield, Jr., of Crisfield, went to be with his Lord on Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Born on Tangier Island, and raised in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William Welling Warfield, Sr. and Margaret Gibbons Warfield. He was retired from Rubberset Corp. and also was employed at the former Holsum Bakery in Crisfield. He served in the US Army during W.W. II from 1943 to 1945, and then enlisted into the US Coast Guard in 1955. His wife, Frances L. Thomas Warfield died Dec. 31, 1996.

He was a member of the Crisfield Church of God where he was Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent and served on the Pastor's Council. He was Lay Speaker for all denominations and cultures, enjoyed ministering to all churches and will be remembered for his street ministries. He was also a faithful patron of Gordon's.

Surviving are three sons, William W. Warfield, III (Edith), Tony M. Warfield (Liz), both of Crisfield, and Pastor Mark W. Warfield (Linda) of Jarretsville; a brother, Richard Warfield (Claire) of Florida; eight grandchildren, Tammy Campbell (Gary) of Georgia, David Warfield of North East, Jason "Jay" Walston , and Tony Warfield, Jr. (Trish), both of Crisfield, Mark Warfield, Jr. (Linda) of Dublin, MD, Jill Lippiatt (Scott) of Glenville, PA, Gina Gibson (Mark) of Bel Air, MD, and Andrew Warfield of Florida. There are 19 great-grandchildren, a nephew and friend, Tony Szwec (Dorothy) of Crisfield, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Walston, who died in 1978, a brother, John B. Warfield, and three sisters, Margie Warfield, Mary Szwec, and Anna Cochran; and two great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Timmy Wallace.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 at 2 PM at the Church of God. The Revs. Harvey Tyler and LeBron Palmer will officiate. Interment with military honors will be held at Sunnyridge Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home Wednesday from 7 – 9 PM.
