Obituary

William Dwight Marshall, 76, of Tylerton, Smith Island, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 on his boat, doing what he loved best, crabbing.

Born on March 1, 1945 on Ewell, Smith Island, he was a son of the late Russell James and Pauline Bradshaw Marshall.

He graduated from Crisfield High School in 1963 and worked as a Waterman for over 60 years. He was a major seafood buyer for over 50 years owning Marshall's Seafood and had many loyal customers and waterman that he treasured.

Dwight spent his whole life on the water doing what he loved. In 1971, he was the first boat docking champion and he held that record for many years up and down the bay. He was two time president of the Maryland Waterman's Association and was inducted into the Waterman's Hall of Fame in 2007. He was also the first inductee of the Boat Docking Hall of Fame in 2018.

Very active in his community, he was a loyal member of Union United Methodist Church, where he held many titles including Lay Leader. Dwight was a quiet, humble servant of Christ for many years and he lived his faith daily which was very important to him. He was also a life member of the Tylerton Volunteer Fire Department and was Camp Meeting Chairman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Ada Marshall of Tylerton; children, Dwight "Duke" Marshall, Jr. of Fruitland, Kevin Marshall and wife Laurie of East New Market, Jamie Marshall and wife Heather of Westover, and Maria Furniss and husband Brooks of Glen Burnie; grandchildren, Natalie Marshall of Boston, Corey Marshall and Seth Marshall, both of Westover, and Hailey Furniss, Ethan Furniss, and Eliana Furniss, all of Glen Burnie; sisters-in-law, Janice Marshall of Crisfield, and June Evans and Jennifer Dize, both of Ewell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Junior and Mary Ruth Evans of Ewell; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert "Bobby" Marshall; and brothers-in-law, Edward Asbury Evans, Sr. and William Smith Dize, Sr.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. Everett Landon and assisted by Rev. Jim Evans will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 2 PM at Union United Methodist Church on Tylerton. Viewings will be held at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home on Sunday, October 17 from 1-3 PM and at Union United Methodist Church on Monday, October 18 from 7-9 PM. Interment will follow after the service in Union Church Cemetery.

A special boat, Chelsea Lane, will be leaving the Somers Cove Marina on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 12 noon for people wanting to attend the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are wished to be made to Union United Methodist Church, Tylerton, MD 21866.
