Obituary

William B. Maddox, Jr., 96, of Jefferson, MD for the past 14 years and formerly of Crisfield, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born in Crisfield October 24, 1920, he was the son of the late William B. and Georgianna Lawson Maddox. His wife, Shirley F. Milbourne Maddox, preceded him in death July 3, 2007.

He was a graduate of Crisfield High School and was a US Army veteran of World War II.

A business entrepreneur in Crisfield, he was owner of the former Maryland Crabmeat Company and also the former Somers Cove Market. After retirement, he was an avid gardener tending to an acre of strawberries and other fruits and vegetables.

He was a life-long member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he was active on the Cemetery Committee. He was also a member of the former Crisfield Kiwanis Club and was a volunteer at the Vindabona Nursing Home in Braddock Heights, MD.

He is survived by his son, Douglas E. Maddox and wife Linda of Jefferson; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Maddox Tawes; his son-in-law, Porter Tawes; and three sisters, Emily Williams, Nellie Rueben, and Georgianna Smith.

A viewing will be Friday, May 5, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 1 PM at Asbury U. M. Church.  The Rev. Sumner Jones will officiate.  Interment will follow in Asbury Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Asbury U. M. Church Cemetery Fund, 3380 Lawsonia Road, Crisfield, MD 21817.
