William Lee Lurton of Churchville died Tuesday, January 3 at Bayview Medical Center. He was 82.
Born in Onancock, VA he was the son of the late Earl and Geneva (Beasley) Lurton. As a young boy his family moved to Crisfield where he later graduated from Crisfield High School.
Mr. Lurton retired from the Harford County Board of Education, having taught for 30 years at Aberdeen Middle School. An active member of Grace United Methodist Church he had been an usher, for many years and supported other ministries including the Food Pantry. He enjoyed reading, traveling, listening to classical music and working in his yard and was very involved with the Aberdeen Masonic Lodge #187 and the Victory Order of the Eastern Star #40.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen (Evans) Lurton; brother, Earl Lurton and his wife Fritze, four nephews and several cousins.
A visitation will be held at the Grace United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 9:30am-11:00am where a funeral service conducted by Rev. Robert Clipp will begin at 11:00am.
Interment will be Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 1:00pm at Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield, MD.
