WILLIAM H. "BILL" HANDY, 97, of Crisfield, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall, Maryland where he had been a resident for the past 11 years.
Born in Crisfield on August 5, 1909, he was the son of the late James and Elizabeth Rayfield Handy.
He was a U. S. Army veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
After his time in the service, he worked many years as a carpenter both locally and in several southern states with the former Wallace Quinn Industries. He was a member of the Stanley Cochrane Post 16 American Legion in Crisfield.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Esther Handy of Sarasota, Florida; one nephew, Nelson Handy and his wife Lois of Crisfield; two great-nephews, Charles Belote of Chesapeake, Virginia and Mark Belote of Cary, North Carolina; and one great-niece, Regina Duncan of North Port, Florida.
A graveside funeral service and interment with military honors will be held Friday, October 6, 2006 at 2 PM in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield. The service will be conducted by officers and members of the Stanley Cochrane Post 16 American Legion of Crisfield. There will be no public viewing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be sent to the Stanley Cochrane Post 16 American Legion, P.O. Box 126, Crisfield, Maryland 21817.
