Cullen
February 3, 1929 – January 7, 2023
William Edgar Cullen, 93, of Crisfield, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.
Born in Crisfield on February 3, 1929, he was a son of the late Eva Blades Cullen and William Harvey Cullen and was step-son of the late Mary Abbott Cullen. His wife, Ida Ruth Howard Cullen preceded him in death on April 15, 1994.
He enlisted in the National Guard in 1948 and was drafted into the US Army in 1951 for the Korean War. He was a signal communications specialist. After serving his country, he drove a truck for Richard Christy from 1953-1954, drove a truck for Tidewater Express from 1954-1957, and also drove a truck for Miller Motor Express from 1957-1966. Lastly, he worked at Sears & Roebuck as an Electronics Technician from 1966 up until his retirement in 1994.
He was a life member of the former VFW Post #8274 was a current member of the Stanley Cochrane American Legion Post #16 and was past member of the Crisfield Elks #1044.
He was an animal lover and would go all around Crisfield to feed all of the cats. He also enjoyed going to Brick Kiln to eat his lunch. He had a great sense of humor and always said, "90 years old still drinking, smoking, lying, cheating, and running women. One thing's for sure, still lying!"
He is survived by his children, Dale Cullen and his wife Karen of Beaufort, SC, and Gale Jones of Crisfield; brother, James Henry "Jimmy" Cullen and his wife Terry of Salisbury; sisters, Harlene Clayton and husband Bill of Alexandria, VA, and Mary Ellen Ward also of Alexandria, VA; brother-in-law, Mike Murata of CA; grandchildren, Beverly "Nicole" Cullen Dorsey and her husband Dale of Kingston, Michael Cullen and his wife Holly of Snow Hill, Michelle Shupp of Hagerstown, Nathaniel "Nate" Cullen and wife Julie Ann of Newark, Shane Jones and his wife Tasha of Crisfield, Shelly Hanna of SC and Tracey Evans of SC; great-grandchildren, Cameron Cullen, Rebecca Jones, Will Dorsey, Kendall Jones, Sebastian Cullen, Jamie Cullen, Presley Cullen, Mitch Shupp, and Jayse Shupp, Austin Hanna and Kayla Hanna; one great-great grandchild, Kaiden Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Harry Eugene Cullen, on August 13, 2009; and a sister, Barbara Ellen "Patty" Murata.
Funeral services at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 2 PM with a viewing an hour before the service. His brother, Rev. Jimmy Cullen will officiate and interment will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery in Marion.
The family of Mr. Cullen would like to thank the staff at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home as well as Juanita Laird for the wonderful care they provided to him.
