Wayne Grant "Hon" Lawson, 80, of Marion Station, died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield,
Born in Crisfield on May 18, 1936, he was a son of the late Floyd W. and Margaret G. Sedlemayer Lawson.
A waterman, he was a graduate of Crisfield High School class of 1954 and served in the US Marine Corps for five years. He was also the former owner of Western Laundromat, Chesapeake Art Gallery, JC Enterprises, and Jenkins Creek Crab Company.
He was a member of Crisfield First Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Mariners U. M. Church in Crisfield. He was also a Deacon at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Baltimore. Very active in his community, he was a member of the Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion, Past President of the Somerset County Watermen's Association, Past President of the Woodson School PTA, former member of the Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044 and served on the Critical Areas Planning Board. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid reader. He was also the main character in the book "The Last Waterman" written by his brother, Glen Lawson.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Yvonne Lawson of Marion Station; two children, Leslie Ann Wilson and husband Lee of Marion Station and Michael Grant Lawson and wife Lisa of Jacksonville, FL; two grandchildren, Charlotte Lee Wilson and Elijah Lee "Trey" Wilson, III; three great-grandchildren, Emma Michelle Wilson-Piskor, Elijah Lee Wilson, IV, and Abel Grant Wilson; two brothers, Glen Lawson and wife Virginia and Larry Lawson and wife Taffy, all of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Lawson.
A memorial service with military honors will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 7 PM Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home where a visitation will be one hour prior. Urn interment will be at a later date in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
