WARNER AMES PARKS, JR., 67, of Rhodes Point, Smith Island, Maryland and formerly of Hampton, Virginia and Tangier, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury following a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born August 18, 1942 on Tangier Island, he was a son of the late Warner Ames Parks, Sr. and Estha Lee Crockett Parks.

A waterman, he was a graduate of Tangier High School and served two tours of duty in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He had a great love for his country and his flag. He was also an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of almost 10 years, Darlene Marie Marsh Parks of Rhodes Point; three daughters, Amber Turek and her husband Joe of Hampton, VA, Marissa Parks and her fiancé Hector Verdugo of San Jose, CA, and Madison Parks of Rhodes Point; his grandson, Jordan Verdugo; his in-laws, Morris and Brenda Marsh of Ewell, Smith Island; his brothers and sisters, Francis Parks of Crisfield, Winnie Higgins of Silver Spring, MD, Bertha Smith of Crisfield, Harry Parks of Hampton, and Erlene Taylor of Tasley, VA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister, Johnny, Lester, Mahlon and Bryan Parks and Janice Charnock.

A memorial service with military honors will be held Sunday, November 29, 2009 at 2 PM at Ewell United Methodist Church on Smith Island. The Rev.'s Rick Edmund and Johnny Thorne will officiate. Urn interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
