Walter J. Collins, 87, of Crisfield and formerly of Millsboro, died on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late George Oliver Collins and Elizabeth "Mamie" Parker Collins. His wife, Dorothy Anne "Dot" Sauerhoff Collins died November 21, 2002.
He worked for Delmarva Power for 36 years, retiring in 1984, with the last 16 years as District Manager of the Millsboro Office. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
He was a life member of the Crisfield Elks Lodge # 1044, and a 65-year member of the American Legion Stanley Cochrane Post #16.
He was very self-sufficient with everything he did, including building his own homes in Millsboro and Crisfield.
He is survived by his daughter, Carole M. Holland and her husband, Robert A. Holland of Crisfield; three granddaughters, Lisa Wooster (Bubby) of Lake Wales, FL, Tina Sayre (Travis) of Crisfield and Mary Ann Rears of Washington State; seven great-grandchildren, Kyle Wooster, Dylan Wooster, Justin Sayre, Jeremy Sayre, Chris Vickers, Jamie Lynn Miller, and Jay Miller; several great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Lee "Dottie" Ruark in 2004 and Harvey Ruark in 2002; and two brothers, Merrill and Harold Collins.
Funeral services and an Elks Memorial Service will be held Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Bob Daniels will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.
