Vernon Tawes Sterling, 57, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.

Born in Crisfield on May 12, 1967, he was a son of the late Leon "Flea Bait" Sterling and Betty R. Tawes Sterling who died June 8, 2024.

He was a Union Carpenter for Local Union #255.  He loved being on the water sailing and crabbing and spending time with his kids and grandkids.  He also enjoyed playing the harmonica.

He is survived by his children, Anthony Sterling and wife Megan of Salisbury, and Gabriel Sterling and Sophieanne Sterling of Westover; his grandchildren, Hunter, Kaylee, and Liam of Salisbury; his fiancé, Shannon Schrock of Westover; a brother, David Dize and wife Barbara of Crisfield; a sister, Dixie Thomas and husband Johnny of Salisbury; sister-in-law, Becky Sterling of Marion Station; his former wife, Mary Messler of Snow Hill; and nieces and nephews, Chasity Sterling and husband Matt and their sons, Matthew, Micah and Caleb; Lee Thomas and wife Fair and their daughter Frankie; Melanie Hunt and husband Mike and their children Josh, Zach and Gabby; Stephanie Thomas; Christopher Dize and wife Iryna and their children Lucy and Leon; Paula Dize and her son Chase; and Sarah Dize; and an uncle, Vernon "Junie" Tawes and wife Irmgard of Princess Anne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony "Tony" Sterling on June 4, 2024; and a niece, Jennifer Dize.

A memorial service will be held at the Crisfield Church of God on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 2 PM where a visitation will be one hour prior.  Nephew, Matt Sterling will officiate.
