Una Elizabeth
Davies
Aug 23, 1932 — Oct 18, 2026
Westover, MD
Una Elizabeth Davies, 94, of Westover, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury.
Born in England on August 23, 1932, she was a daughter of the late William and May Garbett Acton. On August 1st, 1953, she married her late husband Derek in Lichfield and they shared 66 years together until his passing on March 20, 2020. While living in England, Una worked in a factory before marriage. After she was married and they welcomed their first son, Andrew in May of 1954, she became a homemaker. Una and her son followed Derek around the United Kingdom as he was stationed in various areas with the British Royal Navy. The family moved to Quebec, Canada where Derek had found employment. The years there were spent ice fishing, making friends, learning French and welcoming a second son Phillip in April of 1961. Within a year the family moved back to Lichfield, England where they lived with family while Derek went to Wilmington, Delaware in the United States to find a more stable employment and future for the family. Una and both of the sons lived in England for 6 months before moving to the United States to rejoin Derek in Wilmington, Delaware.
The years in Wilmington were joyful ones where Una spent time raising her family, caring for her home, teaching ceramics classes, gardening and seeing her family grow. As her children grew older, Derek and Una purchased a second home in Westover, Maryland where they frequently traveled to camp and fish on the weekends. Here they poured hard work, a lot of time, and dedication into repairing an old farmhouse and grounds into their forever home. They turned that property into their little slice of Heaven and filled the yard with bright flowers, a massive vegetable garden and classic cars that Derek loved to restore. Una could be found either tending those gardens or baking in the quaint little kitchen. In their younger days, Una and Derek spent their summers traveling the country and going to car shows. Macungie was a favorite of theirs, where they made lifelong friends who became family. Una kept in touch with those friends over the years and enjoyed keeping touch with handwritten letters and hour-long phone calls throughout the years. Una loved receiving cards and letters and never missed an opportunity to send a card to friends and family. She still wrote letters up until her passing and mailed them all over the world to family in England and friends in Australia.
Una’s love language was baking and if you were fortunate enough to be gifted one of her homemade treats, you were certainly blessed. Even at the age of 94, she was canning jams this past spring and gifting them to all of her friends. Her homemade fudge was a staple at Christmas time and she never had a batch that didn’t turn out perfect.
Una loved animals and always had birdseed, fed the stray cats and kept the hummingbird feeders full. She was however especially fond of dogs and always had a four-legged companion up until the last few years. She enjoyed sharing Phillips beloved dog Pumpkin when he would bring her by daily on his way to and from the shop.
She enjoyed playing music on the radio all day, visiting with friends and attending Pitts Creek Baptist Church in Pocomoke City. Nothing brought Una more joy than her family. She loved sharing pictures to everyone she met, whether it was the tellers at the bank, cashiers at Wal-Mart or the mail lady. No one was safe when Una had her purse with fresh pictures of her great grandchildren.
She is survived by a son, Phillip Davies; two grandchildren, Rebecca Gsell (Travis) and Matthew Davies (Tanya); four great-grandchildren, Emma Gsell, Adaline Gsell, McKinley Davies, and Isabel Gsell; step great-grandson, Rhett; a niece, Claire Beech (Robert); and a nephew, Paul Western (Ann).
In addition to her parents, husband and sister Brenda, she was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Davies on December 9, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
