Obituary

Terry Douglas Sommers, Sr., 84, of Pocomoke City, MD, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at The Macky & Pam Stansell House Coastal Hospice in Ocean Pines, MD.

Born in Crisfield on February 19, 1942, he was a son of the late Ralph R. Sommers, Sr. and Lucy Pearl Parks Sommers. His first wife, Patricia Ann Young Sommers, preceded him in death on June 23, 2010; and his second wife, Theresa Ann Lawson Sommers, preceded him in death just less than a week ago on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

A graduate of Crisfield High School, Terry dedicated many years of his career to serving as a U.S. Government Civil Servant, working as a computer programmer for NASA before retiring.

Terry was an active and valued member of his community. He held life memberships with the Pocomoke Elks Lodge and Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Department, and over the years was also a member of the former Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Crisfield, Salisbury Moose, Ducks Unlimited, and the Salisbury Jaycees. Through these organizations, he formed many lasting friendships and touched the lives of those around him.

Outside of work and community service, Terry found joy in the simple things he loved. He was an avid coin collector and enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, and dancing. Above all, he cherished his family and his beloved dog, "Lucy," who was a constant source of companionship and love.

Terry will be remembered for his dedication, his generous spirit, his love of life, and the many friendships and memories he created along the way.

He is survived by his children, Deborah S. Miles (Van) of Virginia Beach, VA, Terry Douglas "Doug" Sommers, Jr. of Hebron, MD, Rosario Daza Cueto of Sucre, Bolivia, and Steven Clifford of Austrailia; two sisters, Mary Jane Long (Wayne) of Salisbury and Karen Sue Nichols of Millsboro, DE; three grandchildren, Whitney Jimenez (George) and their daughters, Evelyn Grace and Peyton Marie of St. Augustine, FL; Heather Miles (Ryan Greene) and their daughter, Kinsley Marie of Camden, NC; and Sarah Briar Sommers of Hebron; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield, MD will be Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 12 PM where a viewing will be one hour prior. Interment will follow in First Baptist Cemetery in Pocomoke, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Pocomoke City Vol. Fire Department, 1410 Market Street, Pocomoke City , MD 21851; or Breakthrough T1D (Diabetes Foundation), P.O. Box 5042, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5042 www.breakthrought1d.org
