Susan S. Phoebus, 77, of Crisfield, Maryland, died March 4, 2021 at TidalHealth McCready Pavilion.

She was born in Crisifield on February 13, 1944 and was the daughter of the late Alvin L. and Winnie B. Stant. Her husband, Harry T. Phoebus, Jr., died December 2000. A brother, Alvin L. Stant, Jr. died December 1941 and a sister, Doris Justice died May 2013. She is survived by her beloved son, John K. Phoebus, and several nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Crisfield High School and was valedictorian of the Class of 1962. Mrs. Phoebus received her bachelor's degree from Washington College and master's degree from Salisbury University. Her career in education spanned forty-three years. She was a teacher and counselor for the Somerset County Public Schools. She taught psychology at Wor-Wic Community College for ten years. She also served as a mental health consultant for the Somerset County Head Start Program and as a testing consultant for the Holly Center in Salisbury. The last seventeen years of her career were at St. Francis de Sales School in Salisbury where she was employed as a counselor.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Marion, Maryland. In her younger years she served as the organist and Sunday School teacher. She was a past Cub Scout leader and president of the Auxiliary Board of McCready Hospital in Crisfield, Maryland. Mrs. Phoebus was also the founder and past president of the Somerset County Republican Women's Club.

A graveside memorial service and urn interment will be Monday, March 8, 2021 at 1 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery with Father Mike Lokey officiating. All are welcome to attend a reception from 2-4 PM at the Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044.
