He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Matyi Friedley, and his father, Floyd Lewis Friedley, Sr.
Ted is survived by his three sons, Matthew Friedley (Theresa), Dr. John Friedley (Michaela), and Alexander Friedley (Kathleen), who were the greatest joys of his life. The youngest of seven children, he also leaves behind his brothers, Floyd Friedley Jr. (Rita), George Friedley (Myra), Frederick Friedley (Terry), and Irving Friedley; his sisters, Joann Colao and Linda Hoppe (Joel); as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and his favorite ex‑wife, Jennifer, who remained a cherished presence in his life.
A graduate of The New School Culinary Arts Program in New York, New York, Ted built a rich and varied career as a sous chef at numerous restaurants and venues. Among his many culinary roles, his time cooking at an assisted living facility held a special place in his heart. There, he became a favorite among residents, known for his humor, kindness, and imaginative dishes that brought joy to their days. Ted had a gift for making people feel special, one plate and one conversation at a time.
In his later years, Ted pursued his passion for antiques, running a shop where he showcased his remarkable talent for discovering unique treasures hidden among flea market finds. His love for vintage cars and restoring older homes on the Eastern Shore of Maryland further reflected his eye for beauty, craftsmanship, and history. A true renaissance man, Ted excelled in cooking, decorating, building, gardening—anything he set his hands and heart to.
Ted never met a stranger. If you crossed his path once, you were a friend for life. His warmth, humor, and boundless creativity touched countless people, and his absence leaves a profound void in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be deeply and lovingly missed.
