STANLEY M. PRUITT, 67, of Crisfield, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury
surrounded by his loving family.
Born on Tangier Island, Virginia July 15, 1942, he was a son of the late Clifton "Pick" and Rita Crockett Pruitt.
He was a Crisfield High School graduate of the class of 1961, and earned his B.S. Degree and Masters in Education and Administration from the former Salisbury State University. Mr. Pruitt was hired as an Elementary teacher for Somerset County Schools in September 1968. He taught and was principal for several schools in the County throughout his prestigious career and until his retirement from the school system in June 2003. He was asked to return as Principal in September 2004 to assist in the opening and initial operation of the newly renovated Carter G. Woodson Elementary School. Mr. Pruitt continued his dedication to the school system when he was sworn in to office as a Board of Education member on January 9, 2007. He accepted the position of Vice Chairman of the Somerset County Board of Education on August 18, 2009, and had recently filed for re-election.
A US Army veteran, he was a former member of the Republican Central Committee and the Somerset County Planning and Zoning Board.
He was a Charter Member of Faith Fellowship Assembly of God in Crisfield where he served in many capacities including teaching adult Sunday School since the church's inception, Deacon, Treasurer, Worship Leader, Men's Ministries, and choir member. He was called upon frequently to speak at churches throughout the area including the Smith Island Camp Meetings.
Everything in his life revolved around God's Word, family, church, and friends.
A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Adams Pruitt; his children, Cliff Pruitt and his wife Naomi of Lake View, New York and Christi Pruitt-Knierim and her husband Mike of Salisbury; his grandchildren, Hannah, Ainsley, Mallory, Sarah and Carl; his brothers and sisters, Catherine "Kakie" Bradshaw and her husband Dallas, Frances Marsh and her husband Charlie, Warren Ray Pruitt and his wife Diane, and Charles Freddie Pruitt, all of Crisfield; his step-grandchildren, Jordyn, Kyle and Joey; many special nieces, nephews and cousins; and many cherished friends.
A "Celebration of Pop's Heart" will be held Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 2 PM at Faith Fellowship Assembly of God in Crisfield. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm. Pastor Al Hinson will officiate. There will be no viewing, and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be sent to Faith Fellowship Assembly of God Building Fund, P.O. 621, Crisfield, Maryland.
