IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Juanita
Taylor
January 7, 1937 – September 6, 2021
Shirley J. Taylor, 84, stepped into eternity on September 6, 2021 at Alice B. Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield, Md. Born January 7, 1937 in Hallwood, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Agnes Chesser.
Shirley was a life-long resident of Crisfield, and a faithful member of the Crisfield Church of God. Sunday School was always special to her; she worked beside her husband on the church bus ministry for twenty-five years. Shirley dedicated most of her time to teaching children's Sunday school, nursery, children's church, and women's ministry. Her joy was her husband of 61 years, Sunshine. Catering to her family, reading, and baking were her most beloved pastimes; when the Lord placed someone on her heart, she would make them an apple cake along with a note of encouragement to show her love and support.
She began her career in the early 70s as a seamstress in several local garment factories, retiring in 1991. In addition to a full-time career, she was dedicated to caring for and spending time with her family. Her hobbies included reading, baking, and WOLC Bible Trivia, of which she was a winner several times by using two lines simultaneously in hopes of being caller #10. She empowered her children's Christian walk by sending them daily bible trivia questions, to which she expected a prompt answer.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Chesser and Etta of Chincoteague, her brother-in-law, Everett Taylor of Westover, and seven children: Clifton "Sunshine" Taylor III and Fern of Marion, Paula K. Green and Jeff of Marion, Gordon R. Taylor and Cindy of Marion, Suellen Woodward and Mike of Ridgely, Shirl Carmine and Jesse of Crisfield, Marcia Taylor Johnson and Russell of Rehobeth, and Lana McCready of Crisfield. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Clifton Taylor IV and Danielle, Michael Taylor and Kelly, Kristen Wilhelm and Jefre, Jessica Carmine and Andrew, Lauren Green, Amanda Taylor and Adam, Kasie Howlett and Tim, Howie Harris and Alyssa, Mackenzie McCready, and Brian Johnson and Keleigh. Shirley was also survived by ten great-grandchildren, Silas Workman, Mattie Wilhelm, Carter Howlett, Taylor Howlett, Kinsington Taylor, Ryleigh Johnson, Willa Johnson, Vali Johnson, Leiland Johnson, and Preston Crockett. Shirley is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Clifton Gordon "Sunshine" Taylor, Jr; two brothers, Pete Chesser and Linwood Chesser, three sisters, Della Mae Denton, Marlene Taylor, and Peggy Gutherie, two granddaughters, Crystal Bozman and Candice Green, and two great-grandsons, John Lankford Taylor and Ian Joseph Workman.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 10, 2021 at 2 P.M. at the Crisfield Church of God where a viewing will be held one hour before the service. Pastors John Thorne and Billy Balderson Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Crisfield Church of God Sunday School Ministry: 134 Maryland Ave, Crisfield, Maryland, 21817.
