Obituary
RUDOLPH LEO WARD, 78, of Salisbury, died Monday, February 12, 2007 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Crisfield, Maryland on December 30, 1928, he was a son of the late Charles William and Mollie Cook Ward.
Rudy was a longtime employee of the former Schmidts Baking Company in Crisfield but retired from Standard Register in Salisbury in 1991.
Rudy served in the United States Army Infantry during the Korean War. He was a 40-year member of the Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044, and was a 43-year member of the Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion in Crisfield. He held life memberships in both organizations. He served as volunteer in the Crisfield Fire Department for many years before becoming an honorary member. Rudy was also a member of the V.F.W. Post #8274 in Crisfield and St. John's United Methodist Church in Fruitland.
Rudy enjoyed fishing and spending time on his boat. After he retired, he believed a bad day fishing was better than a good day at work.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Catherine "Kitty" Byrd Ward; his daughter, Robin J. Ward, Tampa, FL; two step-daughters, Catherine Harman, St. Augustine, FL and Shirley McKenzie (Duffy), Brandon, MS; three brothers, Kenneth Ward, Mt. Vernon, John "Ped" Ward (Barbara), Tampa, FL, Jerry Ward (Frances), Salisbury; and three sisters, Angeline Townsend (Jack), Salisbury, Eleanor Nelson (Buddy), Crisfield, and Joy Price (Don), Princess Anne.
Mr. Ward was preceded in death by two brothers, Walton and John.
A funeral service will be held Friday, February 16, 2007 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may visit from noon until 2 PM. The Rev. Terry Riggin will offfciate. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield where military rites will be held by the U.S. Army.
