ROYCE W. DIZE, 88, of Crisfield, died Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield where he had been a resident for one month.
Born in Crisfield on January 14, 1919, he was the son of the late A. Earl Dize who died March 14, 1971, and the late Ella Budd Dize, who died March 26, 1979.
He worked as a seafood packer for many years at his father's seafood business, the former L.R. Carson, Inc. in Crisfield and later retired as owner.
Mr. Dize graduated from Crisfield High School in 1936, and was drafted in the US Army during World War II serving with the 29th Division Company L of Crisfield. He was the longest serving member of the Crisfield Kiwanis Club, joining July 3, 1951, where he served as secretary for many years. He also was a member of the Elks Lodge #1044, Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion, and Immanuel United Methodist Church, all in Crisfield.
He loved all sports including basketball, soccer, and golf, but baseball was his favorite. A second baseman on the former Crisfield Vets in the former Central Shore Baseball League, Mr. Dize was inducted into the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995.
He is survived by his paternal cousins, John Dize and his wife Ellen of Crisfield, with whom he lived with for the past four years, and their children, Lisa, Lori, and John Dize, Jr.; Noah Benjamin Dize, III and his wife Karen of Queenstown, and their children, Noah, IV and Matthew Dize and his wife Jen; Burnice Lankford and her husband Charles of Seaford, and their children Christopher and Steven Lankford; and Vera Huggins of Baldwin, Maryland. Several maternal cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call Tuesday evening from 7-9. The Rev. Karen Dize will officiate. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.
