Rosabelle Somers "Bobelle" Tyler, of the Hearts Ease section of Crisfield, died Monday, December 20, 2010 at her home at age 82.
Born in Crisfield on June 1, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Clifton and Marian Evans Somers. Her husband, Miles "Buddy" Tyler, preceded her in death on October 27, 2006.
She graduated from Crisfield High School in 1945 and the University of Maryland in 1949 and took numerous graduate courses from the University of Maryland and Salisbury University. She was retired from the Somerset County Public School System, where she proudly served for 34 years as a high school and then kindergarten teacher. One of her great joys was the influence that she had on numerous generations of Somerset County residents, having taught parents, children, and grandchildren from the same families.
She was extremely active in the community and her church. After her retirement, she served as the president of the board of directors of the J. Millard Tawes Museum Foundation, president of the Crisfield Chapter of the AARP, served on the board of directors of the Crisfield Chamber of Commerce and the Tangier Sound Country Music Festival, and was active in the Ladies of the Elks. She was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield where she was active in the UMW and Deborah Circle, served on numerous church committees, and received the "Mother of the Year" award. She was a proud recipient of a Maryland's Most Beautiful Person award, honoring and recognizing her volunteerism and service to Crisfield and Somerset County.
She enjoyed socializing with close friends and the monthly dances at the Crisfield Country Club. She was a 50+ year member of the Wrinkle Free Bridge Club. Once she retired, she enjoyed traveling with the AARP. One of her favorite trips was a 50th Anniversary trip to London and Paris with her husband and son.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Clifton "Bud" Tyler and wife Sarah Tyler of Powell, Ohio and a granddaughter, Madison Alaine Tyler, who was the light of the last stages of her life, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 2 PM at Asbury United Methodist Church. The Rev. Sally Russum will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 5-7 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home or one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church General Fund, 3380 Lawsonia Road, Crisfield, MD 21817.
