ROLAND W. PRUITT, 77, of Tangier Island, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.

Born on Tangier Island on August 9, 1934, he was a son of the late John I. and Dollie Angle Pruitt.

A retired waterman, he graduated as Valedictorian of Tangier Combined School class of 1952. He was a life-time member of Swain Memorial United Methodist Church.

He is survived by a brother, John I. Pruitt and his wife Judy of Suffolk, VA; an aunt, Cora Angle of Harborton, VA; a niece, Cindy Parks of Tangier; a nephew, Philip M. "Nanner" Pruitt, Jr. of Westover; and several other nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Philip M. Pruitt.

Funeral services officiated by Duane Crockett, Philip "Nanner" Pruitt, Jr. and Rev. Patricia Stover will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 1:30 PM at Swain Memorial Church on Tangier where friends may call Tuesday evening from 7-8.
Interment will be in the Pruitt Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be sent to Swain Memorial Church Memorial Fund.
