KINGSTON
ROLAND L. MATTHEWS, 95, of Kingston, died Sunday, December 28, 2008 at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield.
Born in Kingston, he was a son of the late Charles Foster Matthews and Bessie Frances Nonemaker Matthews.
He was the owner of the former Matthews Lumber and Canning Company and was a member of the Crisfield Elks Lodge. He enjoyed horse racing and owned several race horses.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Hosier Matthews; his brother, Allen "Buck" Matthews; his sister, Elaine Theis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Matthews; and four sisters, Jeanette Pollitt, Frances Miles, Hazel Kennedy and Mary Louise Matthews.
Interment will be private in Rehobeth Baptist Cemetery, and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be sent to one's favorite charity.
