Rodney L. "Binky" Dize, 76, of Crisfield for the past 22 years, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at his home.
Born and raised on Ewell, Smith Island, he was a son of the late Rodney W. and Addie F. Evans Dize. He was a waterman and enjoyed volunteering for the Tawes Museum's Elderhostel programs. He was very proud of his island heritage.
He was a faithful member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Crisfield where he was a lay speaker and announcer for many years. He also was active in the Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen.
He is survived by his wife, Kay L. Dize of Crisfield; two brothers, Wesley Dize and wife Arlene of Florida and Neil Dize and wife Pat of Baltimore; eight step-children, Virginia Gerhart of Pennsylvania, Michael, Dorothy, Bill and Andy Kauffman of the Crisfield area, Allison Gunter of Georgia, Russell Potter of Pennsylvania, and Pat Potter of Crisfield; and many step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Binky was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances W. "Fran" Dize on March 18, 2006; a sister, Priscilla Marshall; and a step-son, Robert Potter.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Kim Gilson and Rev. Rick Edmund will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 2 PM at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Crisfield where friends may call two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Church Cemetery.
