Robert D. Sparrow, 89, of Pocomoke City, passed away Monday, November 2, 2026 at Alice B. Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Born in Pocomoke City on July 20, 1937, he was a son of the late J. Elwood and Myrtle Parks Sparrow.

He was a graduate of Atlantic High School and was a retired meat cutter working many years for the former A & P and Super Fresh supermarkets.

A US Army veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post #100 in Parksley, VA. He was also a member of the Chincoteague Baptist Church in New Church, VA.

He enjoyed fishing, and tinkering on his truck and boat.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia A. “Ginger” Peterman Sparrow of Pocomoke City; two daughters, Laura Atkins (Steve) of Parksley, VA and Susan Godwin of Pocomoke City; a brother, William R. “Billy” Sparrow of Pocomoke City; grandchildren, Danica A. Thornton (AJ) and Jared Atkins; great-grandchildren, Mia, McKenzie, and Aydanne; a special niece, Beth Barnes (Alan) of Salisbury and their son, Zachary Barnes; and several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Sparrow Watson; and a granddaughter, Krista Godwin.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
