Robert Thomas "Muggsy" Evans, 70, of Crisfield, died Saturday, January 7, 2017 at his home.
Born in Crisfield July 17, 1946, he was the son of the late John Thomas Evans and Theresa Elizabeth Donato Evans.
A graduate of Crisfield High School class of 1964, he was manager of the former A&P and the former Meatland for many years working all over the Delmarva Peninsula. He was also US Army retired serving in Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. Later, he was a Correctional Officer at Eastern Correctional Institution working 20 years before his retirement.
He was a member of Crisfield Lions Club, Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044, Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion, and the former Crisfield VFW #8274.
"Muggsy", as he was affectionately known, had an infectious personality. He loved his community and loved to make people laugh. During the wars in which he served he was the morale booster to his troops. Without even trying, he was able to provide comfort in the way of comic relief. He loved children and was often called upon to play Santa Claus as well as his creation of "Muggsy McDuck".
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Marshall Evans; two children, Robert Troy Evans and his wife Carla of Lusby, MD and Anita Evans of Crisfield and her boyfriend Timmy Tarr of Chincoteague; a sister, Toni Tawes and her boyfriend Fred Nelson of Crisfield; his special friend who was like a brother, Ronnie Evans of Crisfield; two grandchildren, Dylan Hill of Crisfield and Taylor Evans of Lusby; brothers-in-law, Russell Marshall and his friend Tom Walker of Upper Marlboro, Philip Marshall and his wife Cindy of Crisfield, and Dallas Marshall of Marion; nieces and nephew, Rochelle Simpkins, Keisha Evans, Scott Tawes, and Laura Howard; his Godchildren, Ross and Rachael Evans of Crisfield; and several other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary T. Evans; his sister-in-law, Laurie Marshall; and a special friend who was like a sister, Kara Evans.
Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Stephen S. Willing will be Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home where a viewing will be from 12-2PM. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
