Obituary

Robert "Bob" McCready, 91, of Princess Anne, died Friday, May 10, 2024 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield where he had been a resident for the past year.

Born at home in Rehobeth, MD on September 6, 1932, he was a son of the late Stanley McCready and Margaret Vergie Coons McCready.  His wife of 66 years, Barbara Ann Elliott McCready, preceded him in death on September 17, 2022.

A graduate of Marion High School and a US Navy veteran, Bob worked in the poultry industry his entire life until his retirement.  He was involved in many facets of the industry including farming and sales and worked at most of the major poultry corporations on the Shore.  Following his retirement he worked with Keith Ward on the fishing charter "Prime Time" and often said that was his most favorite job.  In addition, he was a Judge of the Orphans Court in Somerset County retiring just shy of his 90th birthday in December of 2021, and he also drove the VA bus transporting veterans to and from medical appointments.

He lived a life of service and was very devoted to serving his community.  He was a 60-year life member of the Manokin Masonic Lodge #106 AF&AM in Princess Anne, member of the Rehobeth Ruritan for many years and later Somerset Ruritan in Princess Anne, past president of the State of MD MSGA and was instrumental in the formation of Senior Golf at Great Hope Golf Course, and he served on the Princess Anne Town Commissioners, and the Democratic Central Committee.  He also was a Little League Coach in Pocomoke.  In his childhood years he was a member of the Rehobeth Baptist Church and currently was a devoted member of the Crisfield Church of God and was active until he was no longer able.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, his McDonalds Coffee Club, and was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan.  In addition, he had a beautiful singing voice and shared it for countless weddings, funerals, church services and events until age 70.  Most of all Bob loved his family.  He truly loved being a Dad but he absolutely adored being a Grandfather.  He was very active in their lives, and very seldom missed a game or an event.

He is survived by five children, Kristin Michel and husband William of Princess Anne, Michael McCready and wife Betsy of Princess Anne, Paula Todd and husband Mike of Crisfield, Mark McCready of Princess Anne, and Andrea Harrison and husband Mark of Easton; 11 grandchildren, Lauren Hawke and husband Zach, Nichole Green and husband Byron, Dr. Robert "Bobby" McCready, DDS and wife Ashley, Aaron McCready and wife Maddie, Storm Parks and husband Greg, Henry "Hank" Todd and wife Victoria, Carly Todd, Timothy Brewer and wife Kristina, Mathew McCready and wife Erica, Andrew Harrison, and Abigail "Abbey" Harrison; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Alex Hawke; and his brothers and sisters, Earl Coons, Broadus Coons, Andrew Jackson Coons, Margaret Ardis, and Janie Lee Conner.

A funeral service and Masonic Memorial Service will be held Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home with Pastors Harvey and Alana Tyler officiating.  A viewing will be Saturday evening from 6-8 and one hour prior to the service on Sunday.  Interment will follow in Rehoboth Presbyterian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Crisfield Church of God, 134 Maryland Avenue, Crisfield, MD 21817; or Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Company, 11794 Somerset Avenue, Princess Anne, MD 21853.
