Obituary
ROBERT E. "BOB" MADDOX, SR., 81, of Crisfield, died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Crisfield on June 26, 1928, he was a son of the late Henry Norman and Bessie Tyler Maddox. His wife of 49 years, Betty Green Maddox, died April 28, 2002.
A 1945 graduate of Crisfield High School, Mr. Maddox was Superintendent of Janes Island State Park in Crisfield from 1965-1985, and from 1985-1990, he was the manager of Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield.
A US Navy veteran, he was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield, and was a former member of the Crisfield Kiwanis Club and the former Crisfield Rotary Club.
Bob will be remembered as a very humble, generous, kind and thoughtful person. He was happiest when he was giving and was a friend to all. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, and loved spending time with his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by two children, Robert E. "Rob" Maddox, Jr. and his wife, Denise S., of Marion, and Betsy M. McCready and her husband, Michael, of Princess Anne; four grandchildren, Amanda Jean "Mandi" Maddox of Marion, Robert "Bobby" McCready and Aaron McCready of Princess Anne, and Nichole McCready of Mansfield, Ohio; one sister, Anna M. Lewis of Crisfield; a brother-in-law, H. Sterling Green and his wife, Nettie, of Rehobeth, DE; many nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends and neighbors.
Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, H. Norman Maddox, Jr. and James Weldon Maddox.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 2 PM at Asbury U.M. Church in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Sally Russum will officiate.
