Obituary

RICHARD WAYNE EVANS, 63, of Ewell, Smith Island, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Born in Crisfield on September 1, 1945, he was a son of the late Emory L. and Mary Jane Evans and the grandson of the late Raymond and Hattie Evans and Harry and Miranda Evans. He had lived most his life on Ewell, Smith Island, except for several years in New Jersey.

A 1964 graduate of Crisfield High School, he was a computer programmer for 12 years at Campbell's Soup Company and also was a self-employed mechanic.

He was a member of Ewell United Methodist Church and Ewell Fire Department. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and enjoyed working on computers, golf carts and engines.

He is survived by his son, Richard Emory "Rick" Evans of Crisfield; a step-daughter, Alisha Parks of Crisfield; his companion, Bonnie Kay Parks of Crisfield; two brothers, Emory L. Evans and wife June Carol of Port Deposit, MD and Jeff L. Evans of Smith Island; and four nieces, Jacqueline Evans of Port Deposit, Sheri Lynn Birch of Salisbury, Mary Carol Joines of North East, MD and Yvonne Michelle Evans of Port Deposit.

A fireman's funeral service will be held Monday, June 22, 2009 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Rick Edmund will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ewell Vol. Fire Dept., 39994 Smith Island Rd., Ewell, MD 21824 or to the Princess Anne Fire Department, 11794 Somerset Avenue, Princess Anne, MD 21853 as their members are providing refreshments after the service.
