Obituary
Richard Calvin Ward, 95, of Crisfield, died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at McCready Memorial Hospital.
Born in Crisfield February 18, 1921, he was a son of the late Walter and Mabel Laird Ward.
A graduate of Crisfield High School, he attended Salisbury State College (Salisbury University) and Strayer Business School. He was also a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Following his discharge from the military, he returned to Crisfield to work with his father at W.E. Ward Oyster Co. Later, he worked at Carvel Hall Cutlery, was co-owner/founder of the former Ward & Briddell Insurance, was City Manager for the City of Crisfield, worked for Shore Up, and eventually retired from the State of MD Comptroller's Office.
He was a faithful member of Immanuel United Methodist Church where he devotedly sang in the choir for over 60 years. He was also a member of the Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion and the former Crisfield Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Joyce Faye Milbourne Ward; three sons, Richard E. "Rick" Ward, Joseph C. Ward and wife Sarah, and Gregory M. Ward and wife Kristen, all of Crisfield; a brother, Walter "Bebop" Ward, Jr. of Crisfield; five grandchildren, Richard A. Ward and wife Jessica of Westover, Jeremy M. Ward and wife Colby of Minnesota, Winter J. Ward of Crisfield, Jennifer Ward Barrett and husband Adam Johnson of Eden, and Christopher C. Richardson of Crisfield; four great-grandchildren, Gage M. and Jaxon Lee Ward, Hailey Alexis Ward, and Autumn Raine Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Briddell.
Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Paul Holland will be Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 2 PM at Immanuel U. M. Church where a visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be in St. Peter's Church Cemetery.
