Richard Allan Smith, 81, of Tylerton passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Born on Tylerton May 18, 1935, he was the son of the late Richard T. and Clara Virginia Bruce Smith. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Hester Ann Jones Smith.

A life-long waterman, Allan was a devoted member of Union United Methodist Church and Tylerton Fire Department. He loved being on the water where he scraped, fished, and oystered on his boat, Hester Lee. He was always very generous with whatever he caught and enjoyed sharing it with others. He enjoyed probing for arrowheads and carving decoys in his spare time. His personality will always be remembered by all who knew him. He always enjoyed laughing and joking around with his friends.

Along with his wife Hester, he is survived a son, Allan L. Smith and fiancé Dana Insley of Tylerton; four grandchildren, Bobby Smith and wife Kristen of Ewell, Lee Smith and wife Ruth Ann of Tylerton, Daniel Smith of Tylerton, and Dustin Smith of Crisfield; five great-grandchildren, Deacon, Bobby, Jr., Matthew, Logan, and Dakota; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward Russell "Eddie Russ" Smith, who passed away on June 3, 2016; and three sisters, Erma Marshall, Barbara Wells, and Betty Rae Tyler.

Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Rick Edmund will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 2 PM at Union United Methodist Church on Tylerton. A viewing will be held 7-9 PM Saturday at the church. Interment will follow in Union Church Cemetery.
