Richard Denny Scott, 93, of Crisfield, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.
Born in Crisfield on September 9, 1928, he was a son of the late Marvin P. and Delsie L. Townsend Scott. His wife, Dora Lee Thornton Scott, preceded him in death on December 17, 2017.
A US Army Veteran of the Korean War Era, Richard worked as a Crisfield Police Officer and Captain for 22 1/2 years and then worked as the Chief of Security at McCready Hospital for 19 years.
Very active in his community, Richard was Mayor of The City of Crisfield for 16 years, life member of the Crisfield Volunteer Fire Department, and member of the Stanley Cochrane American Legion Post #16. He attended the former Evangelical Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Denise Scott/Mike of Chincoteague; grandchildren, Jason Dize, Ellen Scott, Barry Scott/Jessica, and Kelly Wilson/Tim; siblings, Joseph Scott/Nola of Crisfield, Mary Ellen English of Hebron, and Denny Scott/Alice of Salisbury; son-in-law, Harvey "Corky" Dize of Marion; special neighbors, Nicole Miller and Ed Gillespie of Crisfield; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his children, Bruce Scott, Richard "Dickie" Scott, and Terri Dize; and siblings, Harold Scott, Sr., Bill Scott, Eddie Scott, Preston Scott, Marvin Scott, and Lake Scott.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 26, 2021 at 2 PM at Sunnyridge Memorial Park. Rev. Robert Daniels will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Crisfield Fire Dept., P.O. Box 591; or Lower Somerset County Ambulance and Rescue Squad, LSCARS, P.O. Box 406; both Crisfield, MD 21817.
