Richard Kellam, aged 82, of Crisfield, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the home of his sister in Salisbury, Maryland.

Born on March 23, 1944, in Crisfield, he was the cherished son of the late Alex and Dorothy Schwatka Kellam.

A proud graduate of Crisfield High School, Richard served honorably in the National Guard. Army Private Richard Kellam completed a cooking course at Ft. Dix, N.J. on June 30, 1967. He trained in cake and pastry baking, meat cutting, and learned to prepare and serve food in Army mess halls and in the field. After proudly serving his country, he dedicated many years to his craft as a skilled carpet layer.

His commitment extended beyond his profession into his steadfast faith as a devoted member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, where he faithfully served in numerous roles including Lay Leader, Lay Servant, Youth Group Leader, and Youth Missions Leader.

Richard’s passion for community life was evident in his unwavering support of youth sports. As a beloved local newspaper sports columnist, he was a familiar and encouraging presence at Crisfield High School sports events and practices, as well as Crisfield Little League games. In May 2023, he was honored with a “Walter Red Smith” award for his contributions to sports journalism during the William "Bill" Cain Coaches Hall of Fame induction at Crisfield High School. Keen attention to the teams, coaches, and player statistics spoke to his genuine investment in the lives of young athletes, leaving an enduring legacy in the sporting spirit of the town.

A connoisseur of traditional ethnic cuisines, Richard’s love for diverse flavors reflected his appreciation for culture and the joys of shared meals.

He is lovingly survived by his sister, Alice Ayers of Salisbury; and his nephew, Allen K. Ayers, and wife Nancy of Easton. Richard was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Roger Ayers, and a nephew, Roger M. Ayers, III.
