Obituary

Richard Dennie "Dick" Hutchins, 85, of Crisfield, Maryland and East Pittston Village, Maine, died Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Born in Newton, Massachusetts June 14, 1929, he was the son of the late Leslie Waldo and Dorothy Dennie Hutchins.

A 1951 graduate of the University of Maine, he was a chemical and civil engineer for EI DuPont Company Textile Fibers in Wilmington, Delaware working 37 years until his retirement in 1985. He was a proud member of DuPont Fish and Game. Following retirement, he was the inspector at Coast Guard Station Crisfield and Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in the Engineering Department.

He was in the Naval Reserves, Korean War veteran, Seaman, Captain, Republican Party enthusiast, member of Masonic Lodge #0103 in Dresden, Maine, and a proud life member of the National Rifle Association.

He was a hunter, fisherman, boat builder, teacher, gunsmith and shooting expert, furniture builder, gentleman and friend.

He is survived by his wife of almost 34 years, Margaret Susan Hutchins; children, Bruce Charles Hutchins and wife Gail of Cottekill, NY, and David Christie Hutchins and wife Amy of Wilmington, DE; step-children, Jennifer Lee Jensen Trolio of Newark, DE and Patrick "Rick" Jensen and wife Tanya of Seaford, DE; grandchildren, Nathan Hutchins of New Castle, DE, Kyle Hutchins of New York, Jenny Allen of Saugerties, NY, Gabe Allen and wife Andrea of Tillson, NY, and Spencer Trolio of Newark; great-grandchildren, Colin Hutchins of Wilmington, and Journye McDonald, Summer McDonald and Boston McDonald of Saugerties; a favored nephew and niece, Mark and Becky Cahill of Weston, Massachusetts; grand nieces, Olivia and Ella; grand nephews, Jack, Andrew and William; and a brother-in-law, George Cahill.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Hutchins; and a sister, Connie Hutchins Cahill.

A celebration of his life and Masonic Memorial Service will be held Monday, February 16, 2015 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where the family will receive friends one hour prior. The Rev. Steven S. Willing will officiate. Urn interment will be held at a later date.
