Obituary

Richard W. Davis, 94, of Salisbury and formerly of Crisfield and Pocomoke, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in New Church, Virginia on March 20, 1927, he was a son of the late John and Lottie Shrieves Davis.  His loving wife, Jeanette M. Sterling Davis, preceded him in death on December 12, 2009.

He was manager at Venables Dry Cleaners for over 30 years before his retirement and also was a carpenter. In addition, he was a US Navy veteran serving on the USS M.C. Fox during Vietnam and was a member of the former Evangelical Wesleyan Church in Crisfield.

In his younger years, Richard loved being on the water to fish, and enjoyed camping, taking his wife dancing, making people laugh and helping others.  In his later life he cared for and nursed his wife for 10 years while she battled Alzheimer's Dementia.  He enjoyed making crab pots, and watching Westerns, Evangelists, and the daily news on TV. Most of all he loved being with his family, telling stories and watching his great-great-nieces and nephews play.  Richard was grateful for everyone and everything he had and he always continued to make people laugh.

He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Teeny Landon, Tiny Dize, and Martha Davis; nieces and nephews, Erin Catron and family, Lauren Greenhalgh and family, Chris Adkins and family, and David Davis and family; his Goddaughter, Lea Ann Parkinson Leslie; and many other nieces, nephews, and relatives.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Irene Daugherty; his brother, Thorbourn Davis; his in-laws, Ernest and Aleitha Sterling; his brother-in-law, John Henry Sterling; and his niece, Lynn Adkins.

A funeral service officiated by Rev. Terry Riggin will be Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 11 AM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where the family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until service time at 11 AM.  Interment with military honors will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733.
