RICHARD M. "DICK" CROCKETT, 91, of Crisfield, died Friday, May 25, 2007 at Manokin Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Princess Anne.
Born in Crisfield on January 8, 1916, he was a son of the late John Daniel and Myrtle Elizabeth Hickman Crockett.
Mr. Crockett started working on the water at the age of eight with his father who was a Ship Captain. A Buy Boat Owner and Captain for many years on his vessels "Grover G.", "Agnes Sterling" and "Margaret Lee", he retired in 1979 as a Tug Boat Captain. Mr. Crockett loved being on the water, especially around his home in his later years. He enjoyed picking up oysters in low tides, eating seafood, and family gatherings. He also loved to fix up old wooden boats.
He was a member of Mariners United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge #1044, V.F.W. Post #8274, and Stanley Cochrane American Legion Post #16, all of Crisfield.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Forbush Crockett of Crisfield; two sons, Jim Crockett of Milton, Delaware and Dickie Crockett and his wife Jacqueline of Crisfield; one daughter, Kandy Powell of Wilmington, North Carolina; two grandsons, John Crockett of Crisfield and Rex Hickman of Princess Anne; and one sister, Emily Nock and her husband Stanley of New Castle, Delaware.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Norman Crockett.
A graveside funeral service and interment will be held Sunday, May 27, 2007 at 2:30 PM at Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield. The Rev.'s Philip Morris and Bob Daniels will officiate. There will be no public viewing.
