Obituary

Reba Bell Thomas Canby, 87, of Crisfield and formerly of Tangier Island, VA and Charles Town, WV, died Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.

Born on Tangier Island November 25, 1934, she was a daughter of the late George M. and Evelyn Autry Thomas.  Her husband, John Canby, preceded her in death in 2017.

In her younger years, she worked in housekeeping at McCready Hospital in Crisfield and was a member of Heritage Freewill Baptist Church in West Virginia.  In addition, she was an avid BINGO player.

She is survived by four children, Wanda Marshall, Gina Poole (John), Jimmy Marshall, and Gayle Marshall (Duane); grandchildren, Shelley Marshall (Michael Harrison), John Marshall (Dana), David Marshall (Lisa), and John Bradley Poole; great-grandchildren, Michael, Josh, and Brandon Harrison, Gina Linton, and John, Samantha, Becca, Ryan, and Emma Marshall; great-great-grandchildren, Amelia, Emberleigh, and Trinity; sisters, Ruby Dize and Mina Rae Altizer; sisters-in-law, Jeannie Thomas and Kay Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Allen Thomas, Charles Thomas and George "Ham Bone" Thomas, Jr.; and a grandson, Jake Poole.

A memorial service will be Friday, February 18, 2022 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where a visitation will be one hour prior.
