RAY R. EVANS, 70, of Crisfield, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 23, 2011.
Born December 17, 1940 on Rhodes Point, Smith Island, he was a son of the late Hudson and Ethelyn Evans. Ray grew up on Smith Island where he worked with his father as a waterman until 1959 when he left to serve in the US Army. He served in Germany until his release in 1962, then went back to Smith Island but found he couldn't adapt to island life. He moved to Baltimore to work in the seafood industry. He later returned to Crisfield to work as a waterman until 1992 when he went to work for Somerset County Solid Waste Dept. where he was currently employed.
He was a born again Christian and was currently attending Grace Landing Community Church in Salisbury. He enjoyed reading, photography, and spending time with his family. He loved the water, boating, fishing, and backyard BBQ's. He also loved to do things for other people and consequently was loved by others. He was a wonderful father, a loving grandfather and great-grandfather to both his own child and the children and grandchildren of his significant other of 21 years.
He is survived by his wife, Carole Rodriguez of Crisfield; his daughter, Robin Evans Pruitt and husband Freddie of Crisfield; three girls that he considered to be his own daughters, Maria Mulinos and husband Phil of Salisbury, Molly Crockett of Delmar, and Josie Rodriguez and fiancé Anthony Myers of Eden; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; a sister, Judy Thomas of Crisfield; a brother, Ronnie Evans and wife Sandy of Greenbackville; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncle, Wayne Evans, and his brother-in-law, Robert Thomas.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev.'s Kelvin Ford and Keith Rittenhouse will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.
