"Slicky" Sommers, Jr.
November 24, 1933 – September 18, 2025
Ralph R. Sommers, Jr., affectionately known by family and friends as "Slicky," of Salisbury and formerly of Crisfield and Florida, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Hartley Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pocomoke City. He was 91.
He was born in Crisfield on November 24, 1933 and was a son of the late Ralph R. Sommers, Sr. and Lucy Pearl Parks Sommers. His life companion, Harlan Sanford Keith, preceded him in death on January 13, 2016.
A registered nurse working many years and a licensed cosmetologist, Ralph graduated from Crisfield High School in 1951 and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the University of Maryland. He was also United States Army veteran and a member of the former Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Crisfield.
He was a talented actor who was very involved in local theater, receiving several awards while in Florida. He was also well-known for his beautiful needlework crafts.
He is survived by his siblings, Terry D. Sommers and wife Theresa of Pocomoke, Mary Jane Long and husband Wayne of Salisbury, and Karen Sue Nichols of Millsboro; life-long friend and cousin, Dollie Ann Harrison and her husband Dan of Crisfield; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his pet doggie, "Mitzi", who he treated like a daughter.
Along with his parents and his companion, he was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Ann "Ginger" Ward and her husband, Walter "Be-Bop" Ward.
Memorial services will be held at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 1 PM with a visitation from 12:30-1. Pastors Jeff James and Arthur Justice will be the speakers. Urn interment will be held at a later date in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to a local Humane Society or animal charity of your choice.
