Rachel Thomas Matthews, 79, of Crisfield, died Monday, March 8, 2021 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional.

Born in Crisfield on March 5, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Robert Walton Thomas, Sr. and Ida "Marie" Christy Thomas.  Her husband of 59 ½ years, Donald P. Matthews, Sr., died December 6, 2018.

She was a graduate of Crisfield High School class of 1960 and attended Wor-Wic Tech, now known as Wor-Wic Community College. She worked up until her retirement as a Physician Credentialing Secretary for the former McCready Foundation. She was also a faithful member of Crisfield Church of God.

She is survived by her son, Donald P. Matthews, Jr. and wife Betsy of Westover; grandchildren, Sarah Marie Matthews and Donald Paul Matthews, III; a great-grandson, Douglas Ashby, III; siblings, Lillian Thomas Adams and husband David, Jeannie Rae Pruitt and husband William "Bit", Sharon Thomas Gaines and husband Joseph, Barbara Thomas Dougherty and husband Mark, and Margaret Thomas Mullennax and husband Regine, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Robert Walton Thomas, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Thomas.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. John Thorne officiating.
