Obituary

R. Walton "Walt" Thomas, 89, of Crisfield, died Friday, October 28, 2011 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.

He was a son of the late James Edward and Timley Ann Kirkland Thomas. His wife, Ida Marie Christy Thomas died September 16, 1980.

He was a carpenter and a faithful member of the Crisfield Church of God since 1932 where he was active in Golden Harvest and the Food Bank. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, and enjoyed fishing, crabbing and hunting in his younger years. Walt was an honorable, wise and humble man who lived for his family.

He is survived by six children and their spouses, Rachel and Donald Matthews and Lillian and David Adams, all of Crisfield, Jeannie and William "Bit" Pruitt of Tangier, Sharron and Rev. Joe Gaines of Florida, Barbara and Mark Dougherty of Berlin, and Margaret and Regene Mullennax of Lexington, VA; one sister, Dorothy Cox of Delaware; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert "Bobby" Thomas on December 4, 1990; and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Thomas on October 31, 2010; one grandson; and 6 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. LeBron Palmer will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. There will be no public viewing; however, the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery in Marion Station.
