R. CHRISTINE SMITH, 59, of Tylerton, Smith Island, died suddenly Friday, August 21, 2009 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born and raised in Crisfield, Maryland, she was the daughter of Priscilla Holland of Crisfield and the late Edward T. Holland. She had been a resident of Tylerton for the past 28 years.
A 1968 graduate of Crisfield High School, she was a lab technician for more than 15 years, working at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield and Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was an Avon representative for many years, and currently, she was a homemaker and the President of the Smith Island Crab Meat Co-Op.
She was a member of Union United Methodist Church on Tylerton where she was active in the UMW, and she was a member of the Tylerton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Christine was a friend to everyone. She was a second "Mom" to many of her children's friends, and she enjoyed sending flowers and writing notes to many people. She was loved by all who knew her.
Along with her mother, Priscilla Holland, she is survived by her husband of almost 28 years, Eddie Russ Smith of Tylerton; three children, Dana Thomas of Baltimore, Daniel Edward Smith of Tylerton and Dustin Evans Smith of Crisfield; two grandchildren, Deacon Edward Hunter and Dakota Kristine Stein; a brother, Edward Bryan Holland and wife, Linda, of Pocomoke City; a nephew, Edward Bryan Holland, Jr. of Pocomoke City; two aunts, Ruth Sterling of Crisfield and Lois Jean Beaver and husband, Jim, of California; her mother and father-in-law, Hester and Allan Smith of Tylerton; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services officiated by The Rev. Rick Edmund will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call Tuesday evening from 7-9 and Wednesday two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be sent to Union U. M. Church or Tylerton Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, both Tylerton, MD 21866.
