Obituary

POLLY CROCKETT PARKS, 96, of Crisfield and formerly of Tangier Island, Virginia, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield where she had been a resident for the past few years.

Born on Tangier Island, Virignia December 26, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Asa and Cora Pruitt Crockett. Her husband, Melvin H. Parks, preceded her in death on September 13, 1973. She had been making her home in Crisfield since the early 1940's.

She was a seamstress at the former L. Grief Company in Crisfield and worked many years at the Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home cafeteria. Mrs. Parks also participated in the Foster Grandmother Program for Somerset County Schools for many years. She was a long-time member of Somerset Free Methodist Church in Crisfield and she enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

She is survived by two children, Gloria Howard and her husband Jimmie Lee of Salisbury and Edward Parks and his wife Charlotte of Tangier Island; one sister, Lucille Tyler of Crisfield; six grandchildren, JL Howard, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Westover, Terri Howard of Salisbury, Brad Howard of Kensington, Beth Thomas and her husband Rudy of Tangier Island, Edward Parks, Jr. and his wife Beverly of Tangier Island, and William Parks of Bridgeville, DE; 11 great-grandchildren, JL Howard III, Clay Howard, Kelli Pryor, Jason Pryor, Rudy "Tripp" Thomas, Courtney Thomas Ward, Brett Thomas, Lindsay Parks Photokas, Drew Parks, Lance Parks, and Schylar Parks; seven great-great-grandchildren, JL Howard IV, Logan Howard, Shane Howard, Cassady Pryor, Madison Pryor, Lukas Thomas and Mason Photokas; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Melvin H. Parks, Jr. in 1934; a brother, Vernon Crockett; and three sisters, Lorraine Landon, Margie Charnick and Helen Evans.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4, 2010 at 10 AM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Sam Horner will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
