Phillip Lee Gerald, of Crisfield, died at home Saturday, November 11, 2017 just one day shy of his 92 nd birthday.
Born in Crisfield November 12, 1925, he was a son of the late Frederick B. and Minnie G. Blades Gerald. His wife of 50 years, Emma Jean Daugherty Gerald, died December 30, 1999.
A graduate of Crisfield High School, he was a US Navy World War II veteran and was retired from the US Postal Service.
Very active in his community, Mr. Gerald was an elected Somerset County Commissioner for more than 20 years and served as President. He held life memberships with the Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044, Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion, and the former VFW Post #8274. Mr. Gerald also served as President of the Somerset County Arts Council and was a member of the Smith Island Cultural Alliance.
He enjoyed decoy carving, making model boats and skipjacks, collecting antiques, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his Goddaughter, Phyllis Gerald Kavanagh; nieces and nephews, Connie Couser, Diane Brunk, Karen Knight, Gary Gerald, Judy Pusey, Donna Bush, Christine Marshall, Barry Gerald, Nickie Gerald, Barb Furst, Pam Gerald, Laura Gerald, and Tebe Gerald; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by his siblings, Doris Gray, Frederick B. Gerald, Jr., Edward Gerald, Geraldine Gerald "Jerry" Phillips, Bob Gerald, and Donnie Gerald; and nieces and nephews, Frederick B. "Fritz" Gerald, III, Michael Phillips, Dickie Phillips, Jane Lindeke, Patricia Gayle Gerald, and Patrick Knight.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from 11AM-12PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home followed by a procession to the graveside service at Sunnyridge Memorial Park at 12:30PM. The Rev. Paul Holland will officiate.
