Obituary

Philip Ray Mahan, 82, of Crisfield, died Friday, June 22, 2012 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.

Born in Rehobeth, Maryland on April 6, 1930, he was a son of the late Walter K. and Chloa Kreeger Mahan.

A graduate of Marion High School and a US Army veteran, he was a poultry farmer and serviceman, Somerset County Treasurer for eight years, restaurant owner, and Chicken BBQ Chef.

He was a member of the Greenhill Church of the Brethren, and later attended the Evangelical Wesleyan Church. Very active in his community, he was a member of the Marion Lions Club, Life Member of Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044, Life Member of Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion, and the Crisfield Area Chamber of Commerce. He also helped many other organizations with chicken BBQ fund-raisers including the Marion Fire Department, and the Michael P. Cooper Memorial Fund.

He loved being outdoors, and in his younger years enjoyed fishing and boating. Mr. Mahan was very well-liked, and was always generous with his time and resources.

He is survived by three daughters, Kathy Mahan Johnson and husband Stan, Linda Mahan White and husband Jay, and Brenda Mahan Henderson and husband Michael; his former wife, Betty Mahan; his long-time companion and caregiver, Brenda Evans; six grandchildren, Scott and Kevin Johnson, Nicole and Leslie White, and Erica and Kaylin Henderson; six siblings, Patricia Bucher, Daniel Mahan, Catherine Riggin, Doreen Bishop, Priscilla Ward, and Martha Schrock; his long-time buddies, Steve Marshall and Dale Evans and his sons Chad and Brandon; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Dorothy Mahan, Donald Mahan, Lillus Mahan Nelson, and Grant Mahan; and two grandchildren, Hope and Andrew Henderson.

Interment with military honors will be private in Beechwood Cemetery in Princess Anne, followed by a memorial service on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 3 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Rev. Terry Riggin will officiate.
