PEGGY DOUGHERTY, 78, of Westover, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the home of her caregivers.
Born in Mullica Hill, New Jersey on April 3, 1932, she was a daughter of the late James E. and Catherine Ruark Dougherty.
She was retired from the State of Maryland. She worked as a nurse for many years at Deer's Head Hospital Center in Salisbury.
She was a member of the Evangelical Wesleyan Church in Crisfield. She liked to fish and she enjoyed playing the guitar and singing in church in her younger years. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She also was fantastic with an electric iron; you never saw her with a wrinkled garment.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Holly Clauss, Gary Dougherty, Frank Weil, Patricia Slocum, Jess Davis, Trudy Dougherty, Linda Formicola, Granville Dougherty, Jr., and James Dougherty; her long-time caregivers, Roy W. "Brother" Figgs, Jr. and wife Lana and their daughters Taylor, Sarah and Katie; and her special cousin, Julia Figgs and husband Roy, Sr. and their children, Rebecca Guy, Rev. Kenneth Figgs, Esther Dixon, and Roy "Brother" Figgs, Jr.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, James "Tubby" Dougherty, Sara Dase, Kendall Dougherty, Doris Banks, Granville "Hoppy" Dougherty, and Russell Dougherty; and a niece, Mary Lou Beecham.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 21, 2011 at 2 PM at Evangelical Wesleyan Church in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev.'s Kenneth Figgs and Terry Riggin will officiate. Interment will follow in Beechwood Cemetery in Princess Anne.
