Obituary

PATSY SOMERS STERLING, 83, of Crisfield, died Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She had been a resident of Manokin Manor Nursing Home in Princess Anne for the past four years.

Born in Crisfield August 8, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Kirk V. Somers and Gladyth I. Dilley Somers. Her husband, Eugene O. "Tunie" Sterling died in 1981.

She was homemaker and was also employed by Carvel Hall, Grant's and Landon's Flowers from which she retired. She was a graduate of Crisfield High School.

She was a member of the Crisfield First Baptist Church in her earlier years, and was later affiliated with Marion Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher and was active in the Women's Missionary Union. She loved to read and cross stitch and was a very devoted mother who cared for her injured son for many years.

She is survived by two children, Pamela Laverty and her husband Jim of Cambridge and Eugene Timothy Sterling of Crisfield; one grandson, James Eugene Laverty of East New Market; and a cousin, Ruby Bounds of Salisbury.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Somers.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Joseph Barnes will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Marion Baptist Church, 5833 Crisfield Highway, Marion, MD 21838.
