OTIS W. TOWNSEND, JR., 81, of Crisfield, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield.
Born in Crisfield on November 6, 1927, he was a son of the late Otis W. Townsend, Sr. and Mabel Hurley Townsend. He had been a resident of Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield and Hartley Hall Nursing Home in Pocomoke City. His first wife, Martha R. Townsend died Sept. 8, 1988.
He was a retired owner & mechanic of the former Townsend Auto Parts of Crisfield.
A member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Crisfield, he enjoyed traveling, especially to the Sight & Sound shows in Lancaster and to Opryland in Tennessee. He looked forward to his daily rides with his brother, Wright, counting deer along the countryside and visiting KRW Auto Sales to spend time with his brother and nephew.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Vera Brimer Townsend of Crisfield; two sons, Dennis L. Townsend and Howard L. Townsend, both of Crisfield; two step-children, Karen Marshall of Crisfield and Tom B. Evans of Eden; four grandchildren, Dennis L. Townsend, Jr. of Florida, Jill N. Benton of Pocomoke City, and Adam M. Townsend and Lauren A. Townsend, both of Crisfield; four step-grandchildren, Brad Evans, Melissa Cassimore, Heather Thompson, and Brock Evans; two great-grandchildren, Dennis L. Townsend, III and Brooke Benton; 5 step-great-grandchildren; his brother, Wright W. Townsend of Crisfield; his niece and nephew, Bonnie Crockett and Wright W. Townsend, Jr., both of Crisfield; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev.s Bill Davis and Bob Daniels will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.
A special boat, The Capt. Jason, will be departing Ewell, Smith Island at 11:30 AM for family and friends attending the services on Saturday.
