Obituary

Norman Morrison Ennis, 78, of Pocomoke City, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional.

Born in Crisfield on March 13, 1946, he was raised in the Rehobeth and Pocomoke City area and was a son of the late Harry Morrison Ennis and Margaret Lambertson Ennis.

He was a graduate of Pocomoke High School class of 1965 and was a retired Worcester County school bus driver, poultry farmer, and Worcester County Board of Education maintenance employee.  In his earlier years he worked for James Fykes Construction and Dresser Wayne Industries.

Very involved in the agricultural community on Delmarva, he was a devoted board member of the Great Pocomoke Fair since 1994, was active in 4-H as the leader of LFD and was also a 4-H All-star, leader of the Worcester County Poultry Club, member of the Delmarva Poultry Fanciers Club, member of the Delmarva Poultry Association, member of the Worcester County Farm Bureau, member and former President of the Delmarva Coon Hunters Association, and was recipient of the American Poultry Association Lifetime Achievement Award.  Many of the students under his leadership won State competitions and went on to national competitions representing the State of MD. He also coached and sponsored numerous softball and volleyball teams over the years.  In addition, he was a member of Rehobeth Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Alice Jean Butler Ennis of Pocomoke; four children, Glen Ennis (Lynne) and Dean Ennis (Harriet), all of Pocomoke, Pedro Valdez (Julia) of Pittsville, and Jeanette Jardin (Jim) of Princess Anne; 12 grandchildren, Shelby Matassa (Joey) of Rehobeth, Brent Ennis, Henry Ennis, and Courtney Medina, all of Pocomoke, Nathan Valdez (Lily) of Salisbury, Alex Valdez (Ellie) of Wisconsin, Ana Valdez of Pocomoke, Isaac Valdez (Jasmine) of Delmar, Patrick Valdez and Timothy Valdez, both of Pittsville, and Irene Jardin and Marcie Jardin, both of Princess Anne; great-grandchildren, Carson Medina and Rylee Owen, both of Pocomoke, and Layla Matassa of Rehobeth; his brother, Richard Ennis (Rosalie) of Pocomoke; his sister, Linda Ennis of Pocomoke; his mother-in-law, Jimmy Butler of Pocomoke; sister-in-law, Penny Butler of Pocomoke; brother-in-law, Marion Butler (Helen) of Pocomoke; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a nephew, Eric Ennis.

A viewing will be held Friday, January 10, 2025 from 6-8 PM at Remson Christian Church, 4249 Sheephouse Road, Pocomoke, MD.

Funeral services officiated by daughter-in-law, Rev. Harriet Ennis, will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 2 PM at Remson Christian Church, 4249 Sheephouse Road, Pocomoke, MD.  Interment will follow in First Baptist Cemetery in Pocomoke.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are requested to be sent to Great Pocomoke Fair, P.O. Box 304, Pocomoke City, MD 21851.
