Obituary
Norma Lee Somers, 90, of Crisfield and formerly of Ewell, Smith Island, died Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.
Born on Tylerton, Smith Island February 20, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Shafter and Dolphia Marshall Corbin. Her husband, Arthur Hance Somers, preceded her in death September 25, 1990.
She worked at the Smith Island MAC Center for 8 years where she prepared meals and coordinated activities for the elderly. She retired in 1991.
A member of Ewell United Methodist Church, she was active in the United Methodist Women, Ewell Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and the Homemakers Club.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is survived by two daughters, Janice Kitching of Ewell and Joyce Evans and husband Steve of Crisfield; four grandchildren, Mark Kitching and wife Anita of Ewell, Joanne Johnson and husband Greg of Hebron, Nicole Vann and husband Linnie of Delmar, and Stephen Evans of Salisbury; six great-grandchildren, Rachel Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Rebekah Kitching, Linnie Vann, Skyler Vann, and Stephen W. Evans, Jr.; her sisters-in-law, Evelyn Corbin and Peggy Corbin; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joe Kitching; a great-grandson, Joseph David Kitching in 1996; two brothers, Leslie Corbin in 2013 and Harvey Corbin in 2014; and one sister, Caroline Corbin who died at birth.
Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Rick Edmund will be held Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 2 PM at Ewell U. M. Church. Viewings will be held Wednesday from 10-11 AM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home and from 7-9 PM at the church on Ewell. Interment will be in Ewell Church Cemetery.
A special boat for funeral passengers, Chelsea Lane Tyler, will depart Somers Cove Marina at Noon Thursday and return following the funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Tawes Nursing Home, 201 Hall Highway, Crisfield, MD 21817.
