NINA RAY COONS, 91, of Marion Station, died Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born on Tangier Island, Virginia on April 19, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Clara Parks Bradshaw. Her first husband, Alfred L. Crockett, died in 1949, and her second husband, whom she had been married to for 50 years, Andrew Jackson "Jack" Coons, died April 12, 2001.
A graduate of Tangier High School, she was a retired nurse. She worked at McCready Memorial Hospital, and later, Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home, both Crisfield.
She was a member of Faith Fellowship Assembly of God in Crisfield, and in her younger years, Swain Memorial United Methodist Church on Tangier Island. She was a former Cub Scout Leader and enjoyed doing all types of needlework.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Crockett Parker of Marion Station; a granddaughter, Kelly Virginia Coons of Marion Station; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law; and many friends.
Along with her parents and first and second husbands, she was preceded in death by her son, Kevin A. Coons on February 2, 2006; one sister, Eliza Pruitt; and three brothers, Carroll, Howard and Morris Bradshaw.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Alton Hinson and Mr. Stan Pruitt will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery in Marion Station.
